  • The DSP Retiree Certification Process is being modified to comply with the now mandated Department of Justice's Retiree Qualification Course. These modifications will allow for Retired DSP personnel to obtain certification through a DOJ certified Firearms instructor at any location where offered outside of the Academy. Paper work, certification card and other logistics will still need to be filed with the DSP Office of the Academy. A Frequently Asked Questions with the new course and requirements is posted below.     April 17, 2014 at 12:30 p.m. is the next Qualification Date at the Academy. You will need to contact the Academy Registrar and complete a Program Enrollment Application, located above on this page. In addition to the enrollment application you will also need to complete and forward the WSP ID Card Information Sheet and Statement of Verification as well as the Academy Program Enrollment Application to the Academy (mailto:registrar.statepatrol@dot.wi.gov) .

    If you have not had an ID photo taken wit in the past 5 years, you will need to get one taken at the Academy for the ID card. As noted in the changes you can obtain a certificate from any LESB certified Firearms instructor at a location near you, but that will be at your own cost in addition to the $ 15.00 Card fee.

    More qualification dates will be posted as the Regions respond. Last year's feed back was positive in regards to retirees being able to qualify closer to home, so we will schedule events as time permits at the Regions. Continue to monitor this training page for updates.

    May 15, 2014 at 10:00 AM the Spooner Post will be hosting a retiree qualification shoot. It will be held at the Indianhead rifle and Pistol Club (IRPC) on CTH A outside of Spooner. We will hold a classroom portion inside the range house first, followed by live fire on the range. If planning to attend, notify Sergeant Daniels William.Daniels@dot.wi.gov or (715) 645-0705

    You will need to bring; the weapon type you are certifying for (both, revolver, or semi-auto) 44 rounds of ammunition for each weapon type you are qualifying with (per attempt- Maximum attempts: 2) eye and ear protection if you have it (both will be available if you do not).

    An Academy Enrollment Form will need to be completed and forwarded to the Academy prior to attending the training. Additional forms; the ID Card Request, Statement of Verification and Record of Qualification will be provided on the day of training to be completed. All forms must be completed or it will delay or prohibit you from receiving your card. If you have not had a photo taken in the past 5 years or this is your first qualification you will need to contact the Post to get a photograph taken and forwarded to the Academy. You will also need a $15 check payable to WisDOT.

    RETIREE DAY Qualification- September 12, 2014. 3:30- 5:30 You will need to contact the Academy Registrar and complete a Program Enrollment Application, located above on this page.     November 4, 2014 at 9:00 AM, the Fond du Lac Post will be hosting a retiree qualification shoot. It will be held at the Sanger Powers multijurisdictional range (N8621 CTH U Oneida, WI 54115). If planning to attend, notify Sergeant Tim McGrath timothy.mcgrath@dot.wi.gov or (920) 929-3700

    You will need to bring; the weapon type you are certifying for (both, revolver, or semi-auto) 44 rounds of ammunition for each weapon type you are qualifying with (per attempt- Maximum attempts: 2) eye and ear protection if you have it (both will be available if you do not).
